CONSENT TO PARTICIPATE IN RESEARCH (Electronic)
Project Title: Development of the Traditional Islamic Inventory of Virtues – Spectrum (TIIV-S)
Researcher: Dr. Fahad Khan
Introduction
You are invited to take part in a research study conducted by Dr. Fahad Khan at Loyola University Chicago. You are being asked to participate because you are an adult (18+) and are willing to complete an online survey regarding character development.
Purpose of Study
The purpose of this study is to develop and evaluate the measurement properties of the TIIV-S (Spectrum), an inventory that assesses character virtues and vices along a continuum. This research helps us better understand how character is expressed and developed in individuals.
Procedures
If you agree to participate, you will complete a one-time online survey on islamiccharacter.com. The survey takes approximately 15–30 minutes and includes:
- Electronic consent (selecting "Yes" to proceed).
- Brief demographic questions (age, gender, country).
- TIIV-S items using a 0–100 sliding scale to indicate where you view yourself on a spectrum of virtues and vices.
There are no experimental groups, no deception, and no audio/video recording involved.
Risks and Benefits
Participation presents no greater risk than everyday use of the Internet. Some items may cause mild discomfort or emotional distress as you reflect on your character. You may skip any question or stop at any time. While there are no direct benefits to you, your participation helps improve the scientific measurement of character virtues, which aids in personal character improvement efforts.
Note: This survey is not a diagnostic or clinical assessment.
Confidentiality
Your participation is completely voluntary and anonymous. We do not collect direct identifiers (e.g., name, email, or phone number). Data will be stored securely, accessible only to the research team, and reported only in aggregate. Study data will be retained for 3 years after completion and then securely deleted.
